Sliding Sash Spiral Balance is a variation of English windows based on a spring mechanism. Its predecessor, designed by Robert Hooke in the 17th century, featured windows opened using a cord connected to a weight, but this has been replaced with a spring mechanism for easier operation. Vertically opening windows provide more interior space within the home.
